Dentures in Winnipeg
Wearing dentures is one solution available to replace missing teeth, whether it’s due to an accident, tooth decay, or gum disease our denture clinic is the place to get them restored.
What Are Dentures?
There are many types of dentures to choose from that typically fall into two main categories – complete dentures and partial dentures; these are the more conventional dentures. Completely replace all teeth and partial are ways that will allow healthy teeth to remain in place.
Some dentures are removable partial dentures, while others rely on bonding or clasping onto existing teeth. In all cases, getting dentures are custom-molded artificial teeth created by your dentist to replace lost or removed teeth. Implants are a more permanent solution but do not fall under the denture category.
The benefits of your new dentures begin with the return of confidence in having a complete and healthy smile. Dentures also offer the ability to eat and chew foods that you are used to eating. They can also help ensure that the mouth and jaw structure remains strong, helping with pronunciation and preventing further pain or damage from teeth shifting.

Types of dentures

Complete Dentures
At times all teeth must be removed due to extensive periodontal disease and/or decay. An alternative for the replacement of all the teeth is a complete upper and/or lower denture. These full dentures are required support from your gum pad and many times require the use of a dental adhesive. Throughout life, dentures require constant adjustment and refitting. They also cause the jaw bone to melt away, making the dentures loose and require continuous adjustment.

Partial Dentures
This type of alternative replaces teeth that are missing. These dentures are made of metal with hooks that grab teeth for support. Unfortunately, the hooks have a tendency to loosen up the teeth, and partial dentures have the tendency to get loose and require multiple adjustments through the years. Additionally, the partial plate can press into the gum tissue and cause sores. The partial plate must be taken in and out each day to be cleaned. Once a patient grows accustomed to their new prosthesis, the partial removable denture serves as an excellent treatment option to restore function, esthetics, and comfort.

What Are Dentures?
Dentures, or artificial teeth, are generally made out of a hard resin molded to fit your mouth. In the past, porcelain or plastics were used. The materials are not as strong as natural teeth requiring that dentures are cared for, ensuring they are not dropped as they may chip or crack.
How long do dentures last?
A new set of dentures are typically required every five years, even with proper care. Proper care includes daily cleaning of your dentures, just like your natural teeth. Bacteria have to be cleaned to ensure your gums and natural teeth stay healthy.
