Examining The Public Impact Of Fluoride

Examining The Public Impact Of Fluoride

Adding fluoride to American tap water was one of the greatest public health accomplishments of the last century. Nonetheless, there is not much data from the last thirty years assessing the effect of this policy on the American population’s dental health. Research carried out recently, entitled ‘Water Fluoridation & Tooth Decay in American Teenagers & Children’ published in the Dental Research Journal, analyzed links between tooth decay and public water fluoridation, with respect to American adolescents and children.

Research Shows That Antibiotics Can Worsen Oral Infection By Destroying Immune Cells

Research studies conducted at the Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) have revealed that antibiotics can have an adverse effect on oral health. Unlike the body’s own microbes, antibiotics can obliterate good bacteria and exacerbate oral infections. Overuse of antibiotics has long been linked to negative effects, such as resistance to treatment. The new revelations provide insight into an uncharted territory. Fillings Could Be A Thing Of The Past

Fillings Could Be A Thing Of The Past

If you don’t enjoy having cavities filled at the dentist, you may be interested to learn about a drug called Tideglusib, which has the potential to make cavities a thing of the past. It’s something of a bonus that the drug is able to stimulate stem cells in teeth, as it was originally developed to fight the debilitating effects of Alzheimer’s disease.

Oral Treatment With Whitening

Oral Treatment With Whitening

People who suffer from mouth sores can one day seek a new treatment. A plaster patch with the ability to adhere to the gums or palate can now be used to administer steroids and other drugs. Devices that fit over the teeth for Whitening and gum treatment have long been used, but a noninvasive device that can be applied to wet tissue has been long in coming.

How To Choose The Right Dental Insurance

How To Choose The Right Dental Insurance

You’ll pay a lot less for your dental insurance premiums than you will for your health coverage premiums, but there’s always a catch. A lot of health plans cover a very large percentage of even the most daunting expenses after their deductibles have been paid. Dental plans, however, have yearly coverage limits that range from $1k to $1,500 per year, in addition to $50 or even $100 deductibles. Although these plans might pay as much as 80 or even 100 percent of cleanings, x-rays and exams, when patients need root canals, crowns or treatments for gum disease from in-network providers, these policies generally cover only half of the actual treatment cost. Moreover, certain procedures like cosmetic dentistry and orthodontia aren’t covered at all.

The Dangers Of Dental Plaque

The Dangers Of Dental Plaque

Throughout the day, it is easy for people to feel build-up on their teeth. It is especially apparent after eating, but that sticky film forming on teeth is called dental plaque. This natural occurrence can be brushed and flossed away pretty easily, as long as people stay on top of things. However, after just 48 hours, dental plaque can begin to harden and lay the groundwork for some serious damage. For Emergency Dentists call Seven Oak Dental Centre.
